Amanda Sugar

In 2002, Amanda earned her Pilates Teacher Certification from Perfectly Fit in La Canada, CA. She has been teaching continuously in Los Angeles ever since & uses that knowledge in her dance classes.Amanda studied Intercultural Choreography at UCLA. She has 20 years of Ballet experience, most recently studying with Edouard Kouzmitch in Los Angeles and Angel Corella in Spain. Additionally, she has trained in tap, Bharata Natyam, Korean Dance, Ba Gua Zhang Tai Chi and Ariel arts.That diversity of dance experience not only proved that Classical Ballet is her true passion, but that a strong Ballet technique creates a foundation which a dancer can utilize in any dance discipline.Above all else, Amanda believes Ballet should be a fun and rewarding addition to everyone's life.

Tannis Kobrinsky

Tannis Kobrinsky, owner of Pilates & Arts, has been an Echo Park resident for 20 years. Classically trained in Ballet, as well as Jazz and modern dance, she’s taught movement and fitness for 4 decades. A Theater major, she worked in the entertainment industry in front of and behind the camera, but teaching the joys and healing power of movement has been a constant and a passion all her life. She studied directly with BASI Pilates International founder Rael Isacowitz, earning a comprehensive BASI Pilates certification in 2000. She certified in GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS in 2005. She’s taught Pilates since 2000 in Los Angeles and internationally, via her business, Health Habitravels. 2010 she produced and starred in the award winning DVD “WELL worked out with Tannis. ” and is also a produced and published writer.

Ammo Bankoff

Ammo, a professional photographer, videographer, and musician, casually practiced mat pilates and yoga over the years. In 2015 she came to the studio and immediately felt at home in the arts and wellness oriented Pilates & Arts community. Soon after she took the Body Arts and Science International Pilates teacher training course and become a Pilates instructor.  She's now the studio coordinator and a Pilates & Arts instructor.  Along with being a mind body movement practitioner, Ammo's studying nutrition, and enjoys helping her clients incorporate every aspect of wellness into their life styles.  

Kat Fillare

Kat has been teaching since 2010. Prior to that, she was a second degree brown belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate, a competitive rower, an avid hiker and runner. Kat was trained in both East and West Coast Pilates styles. Kat's classes are geared toward those who want to work while also having fun.

Erica Lawless

Erica discovered Pilates as a way to regain strength, balance, and control after recovering from major spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis in 2002. As a dancer, she learned the value of building stronger core muscles in order to improve postural alignment, prevent further injury and pain, and reintegrate complex movement back into her body safely and effectively. As a Pilates practitioner and instructor, she has since developed a greater appreciation for the method and it's focus on functional movement, uniform muscle use, flexibility, and awareness and hopes to help others realize the benefits of Pilates according to each individual's needs and goals. Erica received her Pilates training through the Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Comprehensive Teacher Training program and holds a BA in Sociology from Loyola Marymount University.

Eric Haun

Eric D. Haun has been working as a Internationally Certified Pilates Instructor since 1999. During this time he has built up extensive physical knowledge through dance, fitness, and nutrition. Stephanie Ellison

Stephanie Ellison started teaching Pilates in 2000, and was certified at Performing Arts Physical Therapy and The Pilates Studio of LA. She went on to train with Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates' protege, while working at Winsor Pilates. Exploring creative play as an exercise alternative led Stephanie to study circus arts and establish a Pilates studio at Bumbershoot Aerial Arts in St. Louis in 2009. While in St. Louis, she taught courses under the Dance Department at Washington University. Stephanie has worked in rehabilitation and has trained professional dancers, musicians and athletes, as well as those brand new to the Pilates Method. She has volunteered at The Boys and Girls Club and 826LA. Pilates & Arts has been her home-base studio in Los Angeles on and off since 2012.

Cameron Jappe

Cameron is a certified trainer in the GYROTONIC® EXPANSION SYSTEM and GYROKINESIS® methodology and Pilates.  He teahes Pilates and GYROKINESIS® at our studio. He has a rich and diverse background that includes the study of Iyengar Yoga and Feldenkrais Method of Somatic education. Cameron holds a B.A. from Pepperdine University and an M.F.A. from The Theater School at De Paul Univsertiy in Chicago. He appreciates helping clients look and feel their absolute best through precise, dynamic and joyful movement.

Vanessa Salas

Vanessa fell in love with Pilates back in 2011 in London. Since then, she has found more than physical strength and help to manage pain from a connective tissue disorder. The mindfulness and focus of her personal practice have alleviated stress and brought lightness to her life as a VFX Artist.

Now mother of a toddler, she can definitely preach about the importance of being fit during pregnancy and afterwards. She is looking to specialise in pregnancy and post natal care.

Passionate about well balanced full body workouts, Vanessa believes in feeling strong in your body no matter who you are or what you do in your day to day. When she is not in a Pilates studio, she can be found working tirelessly on her other projects: stereo photography, creative programming and singing, but specially raising together a small human and a French bulldog.

Noemy Hernandez

Noemy Hernandez started off as a dancer and dance instructor. She holds a BFA in Dance with a specialization in Choreography from the University of California, Irvine, graduating cum laude. It was at UC Irvine that she discovered the benefits of Pilates. She noticed that her chronic back pain would disappear with the regular practice of Pilates. She completed her Pilates teacher training with Ellie Herman—designer of the Pilates springboard and author of Pilates for Dummies and other published Pilates works. Noemy has used her knowledge from Ellie Herman to bring Pilates to Calpulli Mexican Dance Company (NYC). She also has taken prerequisites to become a Physical Therapist, and uses her knowledge of anatomy and physiology to inform her as a Pilates teacher. She is a new addition to Los Angeles, and looks forward to helping people have healthy bodies with Pilates on the west coast!

DANCE:  Noemy Hernandez was appointed Artistic Director of New-York based Calpulli Mexican Dance Company in February 2012 after forming part of the artistic staff for four years prior as a choreographer, rehearsal director, and dancer. She holds a BFA in Dance with a specialization in Choreography from the University of California, Irvine, graduating cum laude. She also minored in the fields of Drama and Management. Noemy's most recent credits are in New York City. Ms. Hernandez choreographed works for Latin jazz artist Arturo O'Farrill and the Brooklyn Philharmonic. She also choreographed for Shakespeare in the Park's The Tempest.

Ms. Hernandez is a native of Southern California. There she began dance training at the age of 4, first in Mexican folkloric dance and then continued to study ballet, jazz, contemporary dance, musical theater, and flamenco. Just like Spanish was her first language, ballet folklorico was her first dance experience and holds a very special place in her repertoire.

As a performer, Ms. Hernandez was a principal dancer with Pacifico Dance Company, Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet led by Jose Vences, and shared the stage with Viviana Basante-Hernandez

Ms. Hernandez is also a gifted Teaching Artist. She served as a master instructor with YoungArts and worked as a Teaching Artist with the New York City Department of Education, sharing her knowledge and love of dance with children throughout the city.

All levels welcome. 55-60 minute Pilates workout. Most of the session devoted to work on the spring loaded Pilates machines, but may also include some matwork. This is a mindful full body workout that builds core strength, increases flexibility, improves balance, alignment and coordination. Maximum of 6 students taught by 1 instructor. Small classes allow us to provide individual attention and hands on guidance.
